Cruise control

I have had my XR Pro for a little over a week and in the 300 odd KMS I have ridden on it, I have tried innumerable times to engage the CC but have not been able to do so even once. No hand on clutch or brakes, no leg on rear brakes, engine over 2000 rpm, speeds in the range of 60-80 kph...nothing seems to work. No sign comes up, just not been able to trouble shoot what I might be doing wrong. Any pointers would be super helpful.

Hey there i do not have a definitive answer for you I’m afraid . Sometimes it works sometimes not .
One thing , Leon who is an owner here in Melbourne advised me about the small steel Spring plate under the rear brake lever . It sits a bit high and can active the rear brake light with the slightest of pressure. Under his direction i gently Pressed it down a tiny bit so the light does not activate so easily. Don't know if this effects cruise control activation or not. I have not been able to get my bike to Melbourne due to lock down to get it looked at , i have some accessories  waiting there too . 

I guess ask your dealer , friend . Umm. Bike dealer that is

I have also had exactly the same issue. Wonder if it is unique to bikes in Australia? It happens regularly but unpredictably. Switch slides across but doesn’t engage electronically i.e. icon doesn’t show on the display. Sliding back and forth doesn’t make any difference. Sometimes after another 5 minutes of riding it will switch on when I slide the switch. The other day after it came on I found that the set/reset switch wouldn’t actually engage the speed setting. After a while it started working. I figure this may be a software issue as I also have had starting issues and Bluetooth connectivity issues after stopping and starting (another thread on these issues reveals these are common). I am going to book in for software ECS update and hope this fixes all 3 issues. I have vs 021-004-040 and others talk of 022.005.041 as latest.

Check the plug at the clutch lever switch.  When I had my handlebars off to check the steering head bearing preload, I must have tugged on wires just a bit and dislodged it.  The result was what you guys are describing, completely erratic CC operation.  The plug looked good, but when I actually checked it, it was slightly unplugged, backed out maybe 2mm-3mm, and I guess the vibration of riding made it erratic.  It doesn't take much to unplug it and it looks like it's designed to pull out if yanked on.  If that's it, then you might want to pull a little more slack into the cable so that it's not getting pulled on when the bars go full lock.

Checked the plug on the clutch bracket and it’s seated fine. If ECS thinks clutch is engaged or brake applied it is understandable that CC would not engage and control throttle but I doubt it would prevent CC system from actually switching on. Switching on and engaging (set/reset) are different processes.
Agree that declutching is smoother disengagement of CC than touching brake or negative throttle.

All I know is that when mine was not fully plugged in, the indicator icon on the TFT never lit up when I armed the CC with the slide switch.  I reseated the plug with the engine still running at a stop sign and the indicator lit up and it worked fine.  I think that it was disconnected the when the engine started so it probably registered as a fault and disabled the system.  Then when I plugged it in, and cycled the CC switch off/on it rechecked, cleared the fault and function was returned.
I don't know if the Motoscan app supports this, but my GS911 will tell me the status of every switch and button in real time as a test feature.  I would start there to ensure the switch is operating correctly.  Alternatively if it's easy to reproduce, then take it to the dealer and show them so that they can diagnose it and fix it.

Today I double checked that my foot was not touching the brake and the CC engaged properly. I then tried gently resting my foot against the brake pedal and the CC would not come on when I slid the switch. I have size 13 feet and it takes a lot of concentration to keep my tip off the pedal. I am suspicious that this may be the reason for the intermittent CC issue. Will keep experimenting.

That has been my problem which was spotted by my mate riding behind me. He mentioned that my Stop Light was on and I had NO Idea that I was gently resting my foot on the Rear Brake. Move the non adjustable metal lever under the brake so it activates the brake light later and MOVE your foot back a little or get a different brake lever. Good luck with that.
