DIY tire mounting and balancing

Has anyone mounted and balanced tires themselves. I've read that BMWs have a larger hole through the center of the wheel and therefore don't work with many wheel balancers.
Does anyone know the diameter of the hole through the hub or know whether this product would work?

The BMW wheels with the big holes are the ones with belt or shaft drives where the wheels bolt to the hubs. Our bikes have the hub integral to the wheel which means they work fine without special adapters.
