Test ride
on: June 19, 2021, 06:45:11 PM
Had a test ride on the 900 this morning, I took the bike out for an hour and was impressed.
I placed an order and left my r1200rs as part exchange.
Here are my thoughts on the xr compared to the rs.

Firstly, I made an arse of myself by repeatedly pressing the centre ignition button (keyless), to start the bike, instead of pressing the start button on the handlebar.
The salesman said that I wasn't the only one who had done this, hmmm!

Setting off down the road, I was surprised at how nimble it was compared to the rs, I loved the flick ability, which I thought might manifest as  instability when on the motorway, I needn't have worried as it tracked straight and true.
Handling xr 1 rs 0

Clocks, what a revelation. So clear and tonnes of information.
I always found the dash of the rs, cluttered and hard to read.

Quick shifter, about the same as the rs.
Not perfect but adequate.

Brakes, fronts good and strong but spoilt by fork dive, rear, not as good as the rs.

Seat, better shape than the rs, but so hard.

Engine, felt underpowered initially, I had to explore the upper reaches of the rev range for the xr to come alive.

To sum up
Really impressed, can't wait to get it

Ps. Back to chain drive, yuk

interesting read against the RS, what colour and spec did you opt for on the new one?

and I thought it was only me that kept hitting the centre button to start it first time  :008:

That's a fair comparison between the 2 Bikes.
The XR will never be as quick as the RS but after about 2000 Km it does improve and you'll be in the same gear as the RS
on the same roads and hills. Unless you are in a hurry :047: The XR sounds great at 6-8000 RPM and moves along well. :028:
Enjoy :001:
