Side stand too short?
on: March 08, 2021, 04:14:43 PM
Anyone notice the XR seems to lean over just a bit too far on the side stand? Adding 3 to mine, side stand that is. Pix to follow. Again, side stand pix only. 😎

I rode the (standard) demo bike and found the side stand too short. I bought a lowered bike and found the side stand too short. I replaced the side stand with one for the standard bike (20mm longer).  Better, but even with a thick foot enlarger its only just about right now.
I dont understand how any engineer could have signed off on that design.

3 added to the side stand. No more hard lean. Clears all just fine.

I lengthened my stand by 28 mm and also use a bigfoot attachment that adds about 3mm to the foot.
The tube size is 22 mm od x 18mm id. Also need inner sleeve 18mm od as a backing ring at the weld locations.
It feels just about right to me. I have standard suspension and don't carry much load.

I would agree that the side stand is a bit too short. I noticed this as well, it was just me. It takes a some extra strength to get it upright from stand. I'll likely add one of those side stand surface extenders, which is always a concern on soft parking surfaces, and hopefully that will make a difference.

Surface extender isn't enough. You need 2" to make it right. Until you get that done it helps to push the handle bars completely to the right hand lock. The bike becomes lighter and easier to lift upright. Hope that helps. :152:
