BMW F900R Coolant To up
on:

Hi guys,
Had my F900r for 4 months now and checked the coolant level and it shows as minimum. What is the best way to top up? I have read don't mix coolants and the system needs to be drained which seems excessive.
Is this something I can do myself or do I need BMW service to do it?
Thanks
Toco

Go to your dealer and buy some BMW coolant, mix it 50:50 with water and add as needed. A qt of coolant was only about $10 (US) from my dealer.

I go mine from Advance Auto a local auto parts store. I see youre not in USA but you should still be able to find it.

Every bike I've ever owned has run the coolant level at or close to minimum. They seem to find a happy level and stay there unless a leak occurs.
I'd keep an eye on it and if it doesn't move from minimum, leave well enough alone.👍

Mine was at the low line when I did my first service last summer so I filled it to halfway between min and max. I just checked it again this last weekend and it's just above the low line again at almost 8k miles. Considering the overflow tank is open to atmosphere at that port on top I'm not really surprised that a little evaporates out. I'll probably top it up again this weekend and check again at the end of summer.

just annoying on the F900R that the fairing has to be removed just to get to the coolant tank.

Haven't looked too closely at the R, but the XR is reachable with a funnel that has a flex hose attached, I'd imagine the same would work for the R? The manual says to use a laboratory squeeze bottle, I'd bet if you had one of those you could actually fill through the little fitting on top that is open and never even need to remove the fill cap.
