Hi All,

Has anyone used the “cheaper” handguards available from e-bay / Amazon? I was wondering what the fit and quality is like when compared the the expensive OE BMW ones?

BMW want £110 a pair for what seems a similar product to the £35 cheaper ones. I know BMW often charge a premium but this seems way over the top.

Hi, I put a pair of aftermarket hand guards on my bike . They seem to fit ok the only problem I had was that there where no instructions included in the package. When I priced BMW guards the dealer said they were 300 dollars Canadian, As an option when ordering a bike they are 95 dollars. These are the ones that I bought. There are cheaper ones out there. these fit fine. hopes this helps.

I ordered these ones
The plastic handguards themselves look good and seem like quality items, basically a substitute for the original BMW guards and the Givi extensions. However the provided fittings from this seller are bad. There are no washers for the 5mm bolts that attach on the front, there are some big spacers or washers, that don't have any use, and the bar end bolts couldn't get trough the fittings that attach the handguards to the side. They didn't leave enough tolerance, so the anodizing made the diameter too small. After some retapping I managed to fit the black plastic ones and they are fine, I am happy with them. However I still haven't fitted the extensions. The longer 5mm bolts that should be used when you put them, have a cone head which is not suitable. In the Givi mounting instructions, they also show some additional spacers and an O-ring. I will make/buy what I need to fit them and then see if everything lines up.

The cheap imitation handguards look very similar to the BMW ones and from experience they perform exactly the same. Also from experience if you drop your bike the cheap ones will break into many parts. The BMW ones will be scratched but intact and probably still perfectly serviceable.  You have the choice of what quality you buy. They will look identical.
