F900R Service manual?
on: September 05, 2020, 08:38:28 AM
Hi all,

I've just ordered F900R and I'm looking forward to servicing it myself.
Does anyone have the service manual yet?

I check in with my dealer each time I swing by and it's not listed in their computer yet.  It took about a year for the manual to be available for the 750/850 F bikes, my guess is it'll be about the same for these since they are a new platform as too.  Well that and I'm sure Covid is doing it's thing and delaying it as well.

Oh, you can get a service manual from a dealer directly? I always thought they are under NDA and we wait until a leak. :001:

Have been able to in the past.  I think different countries have different rules about doing your own work.  Anyone can service a bike in the US and not void the warranty.

Here is a resource of the OEM parts. The diagrams can serve as reference of how things are put together.

Two issues, that link thinks the F900's were built in 2018 and 2019, I have already lost confidence in whoever is running that page.  The second issue is the bigger one, a diagram is not why you would would buy a service manual.  A diagram isn't going to tell you what the process is for a valve adjustment or what the steering head bearing torque is, or anything else service related.

And FWIW, as of this week there is still no word on a service manual/dvd.  Deal has no clue what the timeline is, but thanks to Covid it could easily be well into next year.

That “page” uses the information from ETK, the official BMW parts catalogue that the dealers use. BMW adds preproduction bikes/cars there as well, that’s why you see 2018 there. And they use production dates, not model years in there.

Sure, but there were no F900 models in production in 2018, unless they are counting prototyping which would be weird.  It also 'still' only shows 2018 and 2019.  And ultimately it's still just a list of parts, the OP (along with the rest of us) are looking for a service manual, not a parts fiche.

Yes, they have prototype bikes in there. And BMW stoped making offline version of ETK in Jan 2020 and moved completely online, so the sites like that don’t have a source anymore.

I know that it’s not a service manual, but a parts catalogue, but I was replying to a “lost confidence” part only - you can trust this website for parts to a certain extent, as it uses BMW data.
