Condensation/Water in Headlights
on: August 24, 2020, 07:05:32 PM
Picked up my bike a few months ago; no issues for awhile but now i consistently have condensation/water forming in the headlight assembly every time I go for a ride. The water appears to go away after the bike sits overnight but then returns every ride. I'm not riding in the rain and I haven't washed the bike... anybody else seen something similar?

My bike won't be at the dealer until next month, so I can't advise.
Does your bike have Adaptive Headlight and / or Headlight Pro ?
Have you spoken to the dealer who supplied your bike - if so, what does he say ?

Just the base headlight. Talked to the dealer last week and they said they would send pictures to BMW for warranty claim but no update back yet.

I gave mine a light hose down and spotted condensation in the headlights. I told the dealer at the first service and they are going to replace the whole unit.

Yes dealer confirmed for me last week that new headlight assemblies were on warranty order for me as well; hopefully only a few bad batches of lights out there.

No rain here yet so I don't know about condensation, but my low beam has a haze where the light shines through it.  Taking it to the dealer next week.

I have this issue with my bike. I will report it to the dealer and see what response I get. I donít really want moisture in the headlight, canít do the LEDís much good.

Will keep you posted.

My dealer replaced the headlight assembly under warranty without issue. However my new headlights have the exact same issue... researching from previous BMW bikes it seems like this is a common occurrence from non-sealed designs. Iíve tried to stop let it bothering me; hasnít affected light output or performance thus far  :155:

Might be worth reporting to CPSC or NHTSA, or in other countries the authorities that handle your vehicle safety and testing, MOT, TUV, etc.  Headlight output and patterns are pretty tightly controlled so they would probably be interested in tracking this.
